Sunbasket Review

Hey everyone! I had a busy 2 weeks and so this time we will have a slightly different type of post. We drove home to Maryland to see our family there and eat all the regional foods we can't buy here in South Carolina. Then when we came back life was busy and we needed to catch up on so many things.

One of the things I did since coming back home though was to go to a paint night with some friends. I painted this lemon welcome sign. Being it was my first ever paint night and I am not crafty or creative it was a lot of fun to try something new. I definitely plan to go again in the future and do another sign. Since we were going to a seafood restaurant afterwards I had to pick an appropriate hat from my collection. I definitely keep a hat for every occasion. If you haven't read past blog posts you might not yet know the two things I collect are cute salt & pepper shakers and all types of hats.

We brought home so many leftovers and regional items to eat up that once that was done I had no real energy to put together a new recipe post. This is me being completely honest. After travel, heavy foods and catching back up creativity in the kitchen was not going to be my strong suit. Most of my cooking since we came home was from a recent Sunbasket order. I want to state this was purchased with my own money and is not any sort of sponsored post nor have I received any compensation for using the products. I just knew I was going to be lazy but needed something healthy after all the crazy vacation food.

If you haven't tried any of the meal prep delivery services yet the premise is pretty simple. You will go to the website and choose your meals of the week. Usually there are a number of options and depending on your plan you will choose 2 or 3 meals a week and 2 or 4 portions of each. Every company offering this type of service is a bit different so they types of meals, pricing, delivery dates can all vary. We had 3 meals delivered last Monday.

In the past our family has tried nearly all of the companies and I this is one of our favorites. They have diabetic, carb conscious, calorie conscious, dairy free, soy free, Paleo, family friendly, lean & clean and even vegan catagories. Since I had all the foods I shouldn't be eating while trying to keep out of diabetic range we obviously went with the diabetic and carb conscious choices. However, there are plenty of tasty and super simple options every week on this program.

In our basket we tried Pumpkin Seed Crusted Sole with Warm Carrot Salad, Lettuce Wrapped Turkey Sliders with BBQ Glaze & Caramelized Onions and Lemongrass Beef over Zoodles with Pickled Radish & Carrot. Everything was super simple and easy to follow instructions.

I really loved how everything came nearly ready to go, how fresh everything was and that the directions were easy to follow. When it comes to meal kits I want something fresh but I also don't want to have to prep every item or work too hard at the process. If I wanted to do that I would still be cooking my own recipes and this was a chance to give myself a break.

All of the ingredients come in thier own bag. The label on the bag shows which recipe it contains and the recipe card is also in that bag. The recipe card has a photo on the front with how your dish should appear when finished. I found that helpful as well since not everyone reads a recipe and can see the end result in their mind.

I also loved that all the ingedients are fully labeled and the sauces are prepared in advance. If you received a recipe that with unfamiliar ingredients I feel this is really helpful. The sauces being prepared in advance also meant that my mental break did not require me to fully power up and "prepare" everything but that all I needed was a few chops for the vegetables, some quick cooking time and then we had a fresh home cooked meal without any real fuss.

The first instruction for the Lemongrass beef over zoodles was to pickle the radish and carrots. The carrots were already pre-shred so I only had to slice the radish and add the brine with salt & pepper in a bowl to sit while I did the rest.

Next I used a peeler on the zucchini to make zoodles and sliced the cabbage for our "noodle" base.

The last step was cooking the beef strips with the lemongrass paste to your desired doneness.

Afterwards you plate everything to look pretty close to the photo on your recipe card and dinner is served! Fast and simple and tasty.

Most of the meal kit delivery programs have various offers, subscriptions and promotions. SunBasket has one as well and here is the link for the promo that I have available https://sunbasket.com/invite/Linda3867226 This promotion is for a discount on your order for first time customers. Since you can do just one box and then cancel or skip future orders it never hurts to try a new program. Also, if you need some healthy options but want to give your brain a break from deciding what is for dinner or just try some new flavors without going out and buying new ingredients I really do recommend this box. For us, this is a once in a while thing but that is because if it was different I wouldn't be writing a blog with new recipes every few weeks.

I hope you consider trying the promotion and giving this kit a try if you are interested in trying meal kits. However, don't fear because I'll be back in two weeks with more of my own recipes, suggestions and ideas. Until next time have a fantastic two weeks everyone!!!
